Are You Feeding Your Dog the Right Amount?
One of the best ways to keep dogs healthy is to feed them the right amount of a high-quality dog food. Feeding your dog too much or not enough can have certain health consequences. The food which you feed your dog is the single most important thing you can do for its health, happiness and well-being, so understanding dog nutrition is essential for a responsible dog owner.
Red-Paw put together this helpful guide on dog nutrition and compiled all of our best resources to help educate you in keeping your favourite furry friend happy and healthy.
Red-Paw Complete Dog Food is formulated to provide all the essential nutrients in the right amounts and proportions. We take great care to ensure that the end result is appealing to dogs, so you can be confident your canine friend is enjoying their well-balanced diet!

Feeding Considerations
Red-Paw dry pet foods should be stored in a cool, dry environment to prevent destruction of vitamins and oxidation of fats, which can lead to rancidity (spoilage). The food will retain its best palatability if its stored in the original packaging, provided it is sealed properly after each use. Please refer to the ‘best before date’ on the Red-Paw packet.
- Dry pet food is good for pets who like to eat little and often, and who choose to regularly return to their food.
- It can be left in the dish longer than wet food but it will become less palatable the longer it is left out.
- Dry foods are convenient and can be weighed out more easily, helping with portion control.
- Some dry diets, such as Red-Paw, may contribute to dental health by reducing the build-up of plaque and tartar on the teeth.
- Due to the lower moisture content in dry food (approx 8-10%) your pet is likely to drink more water. A recommendation is to offer one water bowl for each pet in the house plus an additional one. This is often referred to as the 1+1 rule.

When should I feed my dog?
There is no fixed answer as to when to feed a dog. It is entirely individual. Some owners may feed their dog once a day only, and some owners may feed their dog twice a day, whilst other owners may feed their dog three or four times throughout the day.
The key to a happy, healthy pet is feeding them the right type and right amount of food specific to their age and lifestyle. Historically, dogs are scavengers, so they will eat whenever the opportunity arises, however, this can easily lead to overfeeding.
Red-Paw Feeding Guidelines found on all our packaging recommend total daily amounts, which can then be divided into a chosen number of meals.
